Openings (The Killing)

"Openings" is the nineteenth episode of the American television drama *The Killing*, the sixth installment of its second season. It first aired on April 29, 2012. Aaron Zelman wrote the episode, and Kevin Bray directed it. The story follows Sarah Linden as she looks into the Larsen family, while Stan Larsen deals with lingering issues from his past. Mitch Larsen assists a runaway girl, and Darren Richmond receives an unexpected visitor.

In the episode, Terry Marek tries to pursue a relationship with Michael Ames, but he tells her to stop contacting his home. She claims his wife controls him, and he grabs her, insisting no one runs his life. The next day, Linden asks Stephen Holder to question limo drivers from the ferry dock and check Rosie’s phone records, also requesting a warrant for the Wapi Eagle Casino. Stan Larsen reveals that Rosie was conceived during a separation from Mitch, and he believes she discovered this after finding Mitch’s keepsake box. Linden searches Rosie’s room. Holder reports that Ames took a limo to the ferry the night of the murder and was booked on a flight to Las Vegas with Terry. The detectives question Terry, who says she met Ames at a Beau Soleil party and that he canceled their Vegas trip. Holder learns Rosie sent Ames a blackmail text threatening to tell his wife.

At the police station, Holder notes Ames’ development company supports Mayor Lesley Adams. Linden seeks a warrant for Ames’ phone records. Jasper Ames recalls seeing his father arrive by cab with a broken taillight at 4 a.m. on the murder night. He later confronts his father, demanding to know what he did to Rosie. Linden learns Carlson canceled the warrants for Ames and the casino. At the station, the detectives see Gil Sloane leaving Carlson’s office. Michael and Jasper Ames arrive with a lawyer; Jasper claims he sent the blackmail text as a joke. The lawyer confirms Michael took a ferry to the casino but returned on a later one. Carlson orders the detectives to leave the Ames family alone, citing lack of evidence. The detectives later question Michael’s wife Sally, who says her husband can sleep with other women due to a prenuptial agreement, and that they lived in Indonesia the year Rosie was born. Outside the Ames house, they see Wapi Eagle chief Nicole Jackson, who notices Linden as she arrives for a party. Linden suggests tapping Ames’ phone despite Carlson
